Chaos Unraveled Comm Notes

chaosunraveledcomm. There are a few types of first-person interaction and the most common is via a magical or internet system based on what your character would understand. It takes the form of a journal that floods with the writing of others, a laptop that works a "CommJournal" like dreamwidth or livejournal, or a gadget that allows similar communication.
"Journal" Entries (Or, your social media time)
Journal entries are the most typically common type of first-person interaction. For a modern character, this is their laptop that works a "CommJournal" like dreamwidth, livejournal or tumblr. Based on what your character would understand, it might take other forms, such as a journal that floods with the writing of others, a pendant that echoes the content in your head as its held, or a gadget that allows similar communication.
Journal entry interactions can have different statuses (these can possibly expand based on character talents, etc.) such as:
All public entries are public to all individuals unless otherwise stated.
"Hacked", we say? You're curious? You may have a character who is extremely tech savvy and could hack into other people's privacy. Someone else might take note of this and list a journal entry as "hackable", or list roughly how easy or difficult such a hack might be. This means that your tech savvy character may be good enough, if they were the type to infringe on someone's privacy, to go dipping into someone else's business and come out with more knowledge than they had prior. You may have a character that constantly only writes private notes to themselves that you find interesting and want to share with other players. You may have a character that is paranoid, extremely tech savvy, and constantly triple protects their private entries or online messages. If something is listed as a private message to a character, no one but the character it's addressed to can use it as in-character information or respond to it in-character! Exception? If it's listed as hackable in some way and you discuss it with the players involved.
In addition to those three you can list that the post is private, or that it is deliberately "Private to [Name]" or "Private to [people in Asgard only]" or "Private Message to [Friend Here]".
Do not actually make private posts on your blog that are in character or communicate ICly privately through messages! Leave that for ooc conversations! The reason for this is so that everyone can enjoy the building narrative of the game; however, if it isn't something your character should know, DO NOT have your character act upon it or suddenly be inclined to guess a secret that was privately revealed to a different character!
Phone Calls, Texts, Emails, Etc.
Anything first-person goes on thechaosunraveledcomm, just make sure to list in brackets what type it is when posting.

♣ During the beginning of the game, there is no initial character limit - within reason. If you can keep up the activity levels, you can keep the characters. Eventually there will be a character limit put in place, something roughly about four or six characters.
So, you're interested in the game based on the premise and you've read the rules. Now the only thing to do is apply! This page houses the application to fill out, but if you want to make sure no one else applies for a character you're working on applying for, please comment on the HOLDS page. Holds last a week and can be extended (within reason) an extra three days past the hold. If the hold expires before we receive the application, you can still apply, but two applications for the same character will be on equal footing without a hold.
What should you know before applying? If you're not sure where your character should go, or need some ideas to think on before you explain what side they wind up on, here's some helpful tidbits about the setting!

♣ Characters on this side may be people who seek benefits promised to them by their shepherd such as being returned to life, gaining a power they've always desired, or some other prize. Others may have joined purely because it suits their tastes, because they were forced into it and aren't likely to fight back, or because they truly do wish to see an end to the world.

♣ Neutral characters are a very particular class and must always be one third the amount of the total cast or less, so neutral applications are not often allowed. Unless you have previously discussed this with the mod and received express permission to do so, you may only apply for a neutral character if you have two active affiliated characters in the game that are not neutral and only if there aren't too many at the time of the application being sent. You cannot randomly have a character go to the neutral side without seeking and obtaining mod approval for balance's sake.
♣ Neutral characters find themselves in one of three situations.

- Individuals who work (or who have agreed to solely work) for Julius Grey, the lord of the Grey Manor and stay in his lands for safety. These are individuals who woke up lost within this new world and were rescued and given a place to stay by Julius. These are people who are more content to have a purpose assigned to them as they try to figure out why they wound up here.
- Individuals who have figured out what's going on and want to either screw up or attempt to push this game in their own favor somehow.
- Individuals who, after getting their bearings about what's going on from other people or Julius Greyford himself, have decided to put themselves up as 'for hire' by whichever team can afford or interest them for a task.
- The Mod reserves the right to close certain types of characters to future applications if it looks like it is causing a noticeable imbalance.
- The Mod reserves the right to balance some of your character's talents on the journey to Chaos Unraveled. If your character has too many canonical abilities that would unbalance the game (for example, L from Death Note or Alessa from Silent Hill), but you still want to play them, a few skill sacrifices would need to occur. For example, a character that picks up talents and skillsets almost immediately such as L does would find himself intellectually slower at learning, less able to adapt but still capable of making clever assessments. Alessa might find herself significantly powered down, but still able to command some of her abilities - it all depends on what the player and mod agree upon during discussion.

chaosunraveledmodThis list may be long to help incorporate guidelines to smooth any potential issues that could arise between roleplayers due to different expectations or impressions of the setting, etc. There'll be some basic rules as to how this game runs and some not-so basic rules.
General Expectations
♣ Applying to the game means agreeing that you have read the rules and will abide by them, including any additional rules described during the application process on the application page.
♣ Whether in a character’s background or in a log on the main board, please label anything that may be upsetting with a clear warning. Themes of a graphic and explicit nature may be explored as long as players treat the content with respect. A past history of sexual/domestic violence or suicidal themes is acceptable in characters, but anything to actively happen within the game should be discussed with the mod (and any immediately involved players) first. Though technically any topic is worth exploring in fiction, for the sake of everyone's comfort levels in a public game, we ask that no in-game character plots contain the written act of rape (befores, afters and mentions only) or suicide. Those who wish to request a waiver of this rule must discuss it with the mod, obtain written permission and prove that they have written permission from all participants in the in-game plot with a full understanding of what is to come. It's not likely.
♣ Players must be at least 17 or older in order to apply, but anyone 17 cannot write sexually explicit content under any circumstances within the game, regardless of the other person's age.
♣ Remember that in-character attitudes do not equal player attitudes.
♣ Be active. If you need to be away for an extended period of time for any reason, please drop a note in the Drop Box, or an email to the Mod. There will be monthly activity checks that basically amount to 'are you roleplaying the character or aren't you', as it's pretty easy to notice. Inactivity for two months without a hiatus warning will result in an immediate drop of the character. When you become free, you can always reapply for the character if they are not taken in the interim.
On Writing
♣ Whether or not English is your first language, you will incorporate spelling and grammar to the best of your ability. English does not need to be your first language. Mistakes are acceptable. Coherency is key; that is all.
♣ COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Do your best to keep communication up and it will avoid most issues in the first place. It is your job to speak up about what you are and are not comfortable with; if you agreed to something and your roleplay partner does so and you become upset AFTERWARDS, it is your job to speak up and say that you were mistaken, or there was a misunderstanding, and the thread or plot needs to cease or be altered in some way. If there is some issue in regards to the Chaos Unraveled roleplay and you need a mod to assist you, please do not be afraid to contact a moderator for assistance. In addition, there are warnings on threads; if something you are not comfortable with is part of a thread, then do not read it. Do not attempt to police others' comfort levels; attempting to do so will ultimately have you removed from the game if you do not stop after repeated warnings.

Players are encouraged to move forward with their individual stories, but need to talk with the mod about changes on a large level. Example? "My character is going to go blow up half a city!" versus "My character is going to go fight that character!" For the latter, you don't need to discuss it with the mod. However, you do need to discuss mass influence on a level like that, since it requires permission and awareness of the entire cast to prevent continuity issues. We don't want someone a day later acting like Emptiness is crystal clean if half of it blew up!
♣ While players must be 18 or older, characters do not need to be. However. Characters 17 or younger cannot participate in explicit sexual and sexually violent content. This doesn't mean that, if handled maturely, your character can't be involved in such activities if that's the direction you wish. Jerry may have flashbacks to a traumatic experience, but the act of it is not permitted, period end paragraph. Befores, afters, references? Those are all acceptable as long as you mark your post as containing such content while writing a minor. No porn of your fifteen year old character, thanks.
♣ It is understood that sometimes you may have your characters interact. It might be to bounce them off each other, it might be because it's necessary due to how plot involvement worked out. Either way, it's fine. However, you cannot use this to your advantage and spill the secrets given in confidence to one of your characters...to another character you play. Unless it's expressly permitted by the person involved, don't. And even if it is, don't take advantage of it. It's not really fair in most situations, though I'm aware there might be a time where it's okay.
On The Communities

It takes the form of a journal that floods with the writing of others, a laptop that works a "CommJournal" like dreamwidth or livejournal, or a gadget that allows similar communication. General Expectations
♣ Applying to the game means agreeing that you have read the rules and will abide by them, including any additional rules described during the application process on the application page.
♣ Whether in a character’s background or in a log on the main board, please label anything that may be upsetting with a clear warning. Themes of a graphic and explicit nature may be explored as long as players treat the content with respect. A past history of sexual/domestic violence or suicidal themes is acceptable in characters, but anything to actively happen within the game should be discussed with the mod (and any immediately involved players) first. Though technically any topic is worth exploring in fiction, for the sake of everyone's comfort levels in a public game, we ask that no in-game character plots contain the written act of rape (befores, afters and mentions only) or suicide. Those who wish to request a waiver of this rule must discuss it with the mod, obtain written permission and prove that they have written permission from all participants in the in-game plot with a full understanding of what is to come. It's not likely.
♣ Players must be at least 17 or older in order to apply, but anyone 17 cannot write sexually explicit content under any circumstances within the game, regardless of the other person's age.
♣ Remember that in-character attitudes do not equal player attitudes.
♣ Be active. If you need to be away for an extended period of time for any reason, please drop a note in the Drop Box, or an email to the Mod. There will be monthly activity checks that basically amount to 'are you roleplaying the character or aren't you', as it's pretty easy to notice. Inactivity for two months without a hiatus warning will result in an immediate drop of the character. When you become free, you can always reapply for the character if they are not taken in the interim.
On Writing
♣ Whether or not English is your first language, you will incorporate spelling and grammar to the best of your ability. English does not need to be your first language. Mistakes are acceptable. Coherency is key; that is all.
♣ COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Do your best to keep communication up and it will avoid most issues in the first place. It is your job to speak up about what you are and are not comfortable with; if you agreed to something and your roleplay partner does so and you become upset AFTERWARDS, it is your job to speak up and say that you were mistaken, or there was a misunderstanding, and the thread or plot needs to cease or be altered in some way. If there is some issue in regards to the Chaos Unraveled roleplay and you need a mod to assist you, please do not be afraid to contact a moderator for assistance. In addition, there are warnings on threads; if something you are not comfortable with is part of a thread, then do not read it. Do not attempt to police others' comfort levels; attempting to do so will ultimately have you removed from the game if you do not stop after repeated warnings.
